ABOUT THE BLACK GEORDIE CLUB

The Black Geordie Club (BGC) brings together Black Newcastle United supporters and friends through a shared love of Newcastle United, football, culture and community.

Our community includes supporters from London, the North East and across the UK.

OUR STORY

The Black Geordie Club was founded by Darryl McKay, driven by his passion for Newcastle United and a desire to bring Black Newcastle United supporters together.

What began through a shared love of the Toon is developing into a community where supporters can connect, build friendships, enjoy football together and strengthen Black representation within the wider supporter community.

BGC is about more than football. It is about connection, identity, representation and belonging.

For Darryl, supporting Newcastle United started with something simple: seeing someone on the pitch he could see himself in.

Growing up as a young Black football fan, there weren't many players on television who looked like him. Ian Wright was one. Andy Cole was another.

Most of Darryl's friends supported Arsenal, but Darryl chose a different path. Andy Cole became his idol, and watching him play for Newcastle United gave Darryl his connection to the club.

Newcastle became his team — and stayed his team.

Years later, that same idea of representation would help inspire The Black Geordie Club.

Darryl created BGC to bring together Black Newcastle United supporters who share that passion for the Toon, while building something he would have valued seeing when he was younger: a visible community of supporters who looked like him.

Today, BGC is about football, but it's also about representation, connection and belonging — bringing people together through the club they love.

OUR VISION

BGC aims to build a strong, positive and visible community of Black Newcastle United supporters through matchday socials, events, community activities and opportunities to connect.

As BGC develops, we want to build positive relationships with Newcastle United and the wider supporter community.
